Our New Home Reno Series: Paint and a Funny Story

This week, the painter is coming to help me spruce things up. It'll be a while before we're ready to remodel the kitchen and baths so in the meantime, I chose some neutral colors for our trim (BM OC-45 Swiss Coffee) and two wall colors (BM) C-2 Pale Almond and BM OC-87 Capri Coast). I need to make the wall colors work with the existing tile, floors and counters and I’m happy with these choices. Here’s a shot of the two colors and Swiss Coffee (right) together.

It probably doesn’t look like much to you in this email but I’ve tested them on large pieces of poster board and I’ve viewed them in different lighting situations to be sure. Besides, Swiss Coffee is my all-time favorite white. It’s so creamy and just speaks to my soul. 😊 I may have to live with the existing bright white cabinets, etc. for a while but eventually, all of the cabinetry as well as the trim will be Ben Moore Swiss Coffee. Check out last week’s post to see why I chose these beautiful colors to compliment my fabric and wallpaper choices!

Next, I’ve prepared a schedule to assign color to each room and surface. Here’s my schedule for the painter. This will eliminate any confusion because I’m using different sheens for the ceilings depending on the amount of moisture present. I happen to like Benjamin Moore’s Regal Line best for my own home I've also specified it a lot for clients too.

Taking the time to fill out a schedule for your painting contractor is also good so you'll have a record for down the road. And it aleviates stress. I once had a woman call me from the paint store in tears. She was so stressed out because her painter needed her selections right away and she was overwhelmed. I told her, "Grace, your contractor works for you. And this is supposed to be fun. So tell him to hold his horses!"

If you’d like a blank copy of this schedule, you can find it at the end of my FREE color palette guide which is a great paint resource on my website. It’s called Create Your Color Scheme. You’ll find great tips on creating a color palette for your whole home as well. Just click the link at the bottom of this blog post to get your copy.

This is a true story and you won’t believe what happened.

When my kids were small, we were heading home after an afternoon out with friends. My youngest asked me, “Mom, what color is the UPS truck?” I replied, “Brown.”

Both of my kids insisted the UPS truck was black.

Being an interior designer, I just couldn’t let this go. So, we argued back and forth while I insisted UPS trucks were brown.

When we reached the next stop light, I couldn’t believe my luck. There in the lane next to us and right beside my car, was a UPS truck!

So, I said to my kids, “Watch this you guys” and I proceeded to roll down my passenger side window. I called to the UPS guy, “Excuse me sir? What color is your truck?” And do you know what he said? “Black!”

I couldn’t believe my ears. 😂 We laughed all the way home.

That’s it for today. I hope to see you here again soon!
