Using Storyboards to Plan Your Kitchen Remodel

I often hear people say they have trouble “seeing” or envisioning how their rooms will look when they’re done.  Sometimes their rooms turn out to be less than satisfying because they didn’t turn out how they thought they would.

In today’s article, I’m sharing my thoughts on creating a storyboard for a kitchen remodel as well as tips to help you plan your kitchen remodel budget.

Every good design should start with a concept and using storyboards to create your kitchen remodel is one great way to begin.  Here is a board I’ve created for you as an example.

On this storyboard, I’ve arranged the items I’d like to use in proportion to one another to see how the room will “feel”. Some smaller items are missing but you can see that each element is represented. Things such as a towel bar, soap dispenser, disposal air gap, water filtration, etc. can be filled in on your budget sheet but the styles and finishes and the larger appliances are here. A storyboard will give you a very good idea of the way this room will feel by representing all the elements.

The cabinets will be painted a soft white and for the island, the teal will be fun as an accent color.

You’ll also notice that I’ve mixed a polished chrome sink faucet with gold cabinet hardware and gold lighting fixtures over the island. If one thing relates to something else in the room, it will blend nicely.

The countertops are a quartz version of a Calacatta Gold marble, and the backsplash is a long subway placed in a herringbone pattern. The counter and tile are formal, so I’ve selected a rustic wood flooring to balance out the feeling for this room so it stays fairly relaxed.

The farm-style sink has two bowls which is much more practical than the popular trough sinks we see lately.
