What do Football and Couch Potatoes Have In Common?
It’s football season and that means— lots of couch time. Here are some tips to help you avoid personal injury while watching your favorite teams this fall.
Clients are always asking us if we recommend placing the TV over the fireplace. It is logical to think this way. The two features (TV and Fireplace) can compete for attention and it becomes a challenge to choose the focal point if they are separated. But before you get ready for kick off, consider these ideas:
Wait…what? There is something more important than TV on game day??
Yep. The bigger concern is your comfort. If your fireplace opening or mantle is too high, you’ll wind up craning your neck as you view the screen. Over time, this can cause damage to your neck. Also, you’ll experience eye strain. You don’t want to be looking upward while watching. Looking straight ahead to the center of the screen is best.
The optimum height for a TV is where your eyes meet the middle of the screen while facing forward. For most people, this will be around 45” off the floor.
If you absolutely MUST have the TV over the fireplace, then be sure to set the sofa far enough away from the screen and also that the back of your chair or sofa supports your head.
Now–settle in, get cozy and enjoy the game!
